Is Ryeowook Really a Korean?

 

Korean or what?

 It seems like a stupid question,but I’ve started wondering recently about Ryeowook’s exotic looks.I can tell the difference between East Asians(not good at distinguishing Southeast Asians though)almost perfectly.Why “almost” perfectly?Because when I first saw Ryeowook,I didn’t think he was Korean.That was the only mistake I’ve made so far in distinguishing East Asians.

 When Super Junior first debuted,I looked up at their pictures,and the so-called exotic hottie Hankyung didn’t really look exotic to me at all.I mean,he looked Tungus and everything,but not exotic.Really,when I first saw Ryeowook I thought he was the Chinese member because he looked so exotic.And apparently,I wasn’t the only one who thought Ryeowook wasn’t Korean.Even some Super Junior members did.After when they were told that there will be a Chinese member in the group,they had thought Ryeowook was the Chinese member.

 So Ryeowook has got this exotic looks.And he sounds very…um…exotic too.He has this accent.Sure,it is possible for one to fake an accent,but you cannot fake it 24/7.When he speaks,it seems like his jawbone just drops,as if he were an Indo-European language speaker.Also when he sings or talks,it sounds like his vocal chords are placed farther back in his throat than most Altaic language speakers.Sometimes when he pronounces the Korean consonant “ㄹ”,he pronounces it like the Spanish consonant “rr”(and we don’t have the “rr” sound in Korean!).Okay,Spanish isn’t an Indo-European language,but still.Even “real” foreigners,like Hankyung or Zhang Li Yin don’t sound like that.Neither does Henry when he speaks Korean,who apparently grew up as an English-speaker in Canada.The strange thing is that he can’t even pronounce his own name right.Instead of saying “Ryeowook”(Ryuh-Wook),or “Ryeowookie”(nickname),he says “Ryowook” or “Ryowookie”.Han Ga-In(a Korean actress),who is apparently 1/4 European(her grandmother is Spanish),has a very slight accent like Ryeowook’s when she talks.

 It seems like he’s from…Nowhere!I mean,he’s too exotic.And he sounds exotic too.I mean,he is Korean,but I don’t think he is full Korean.

 I think he’s 3/4 Korean,1/8 European and 1/8 Southeast Asian.Not sure.I don’t know.Maybe he’s just an exotic-looking full Korean.Whatever.Whaddya think?

Stop Calling Koreans “Plastic”!

 I always get pissed off when Asian FOB girls come up to me and ask me if I’ve gotten any job done.First and foremost,those questions are pretty private and you shouldn’t ask anyone that question just because they are Korean.Second,I’m not even Korean.I’m American!Third,I haven’t got any job done so stop asking!
 I know that a lot of Asians think Koreans are all on plastic surgery.Yup,I’ve experienced it many times.On web,other Asians always call good-looking Koreans plastic and say that all Korean celebrities have gotten plastic surgeries.At school,other Asians come up to Koreans and Korean-Americans(I hate this hyphenization crap too,yup)and ask us if we have gotten any job done.I’m American,not Korean,so leave me alone,salas(it’s Hindi)!
 
 Studies prove that in fact there are more plastic surgeons in Taiwan and Japan than they are in Korea.Now,I’m not saying that all Taiwanese and Japanese are plastic.I personally think they are some of the most gorgeous people in the world.But why do you have to call Koreans and Korean-Americans plastic when other Asians get more plastic surgery than Koreans do?
 It’s actually funny because Asians don’t make fun of Caucasian-Americans like Demi Moore or Ashlee Simpson for getting plastic surgeries but trash talk on Korean-Americans for getting small rhinoplasties.Is that some form of an intraracial racism?Get a life,people!There is no race but the human race!

Super Junior Fanfic Writers Are Perverted

Do you really believe this?

 Sufics(Super Junior fanfics) are overall good.Some of them are actually hilarious.And I don’t mind reading about Super Junior couples in fanfics because they’re all straight in real life anyway.But often,sufics contain some…um…sexual contents.Most sufic readers are around 12~17 in age.Do you really need to go into all kinds of details specifically when describing…um…gay sex?Do you really need to put those kinds of contents in your fanfic anyway?
 There was this one very popular Super Junior KangTeuk fanfic(you guys all know what I’m talking about).Now I do not wish to bash on the author because her work was pretty great.She is a talented writer.But the fanfic was a little bit…too much for me.I don’t know if it’s because I was born and raised in America instead of Korea,but it’s still kind of awkward.The KangTeuk fanfic starts with the scene where all Super Junior members holding a drinking bout in their dorm.And there,Bear Kangin,who was apparently drunk,sodomizes Leeteuk by force.Bear keeps on doing that,one time in front of Siwon(imagine Siwon’s face!),who was very close to Leeteuk.And Siwon,who in real life,had dated GIRLS including Stella Kim,Bae Seul-Gi,and this one non-celebrity girl,and Leeteuk,who has had a lot of girlfriends,have…yeah…(I know) too.Don’t you think this fanfic is a little bit too much for 13-year-old fanfic readers?

 Well,of course,that fanfic was a little bit too hardcore,but most sufics contain at least one gay sexual scene.And I don’t think 12-year-olds should be reading those.It’s not good for them,and it influences their views on each Super Junior members.Seriously,they aren’t sex-crazed catamites.I’ve seen this cute SimCin pic on a Korean blog.Heechul was hugging Siwon from behind,and Siwon had this one red spot on his neck(I believe it was an allergy or something),and this one young ELF who didn’t even know how to spell Korean words correctly commented on it,by saying “I hope that red thing is a mosquito bite,not a lovebite.”Ew!Kids shouldn’t be saying those types of things,should they?I mean,unless they are super perverted.But some Elves(not all) often do seem to go perverted on Super Junior couples.Whenever they see pics of Kangin hugging Leeteuk,they go “Ooh,Kangin’s feeling sorry to Leeteuk because he went too far last night” and on Eunhae pics,they comment “Just do it tonight,Eunhyuk!” Oh my gosh.How old are they?Like 13 or 14?
 I believe all these yaoi things going on is caused by fanfics.No wonder why Korean teen idols don’t like reading their fanfics.Park Jungmin from SS501 once said ,”I’ve downloaded a fanfic and started reading it,but I stopped at the first section.I couldn’t continue.”Shinhwa’s Lee Minwoo commented on Shinhwa fanfics(although most Shinhwa fanfics contain significantly less sexual materials than other ones)by saying “Those are too awkward to read.”Amen.

 We need less sexual fanfics.Fanfics that the teen idols themselves and we Asians who grew up in the Western societies can read without being grossed out.Fanfics that 13-year-olds can read without getting free lessons on gay sex.
 
 We need better fanfics.
