Okay, maybe “discrimination” isn’t really the right word to describe this. But it’s true that thesedays Koreans care too much,a little bit too much about one’s blood type.
A,B,AB,O…Why do they matter?Well,in Korea, many people think blood types are somehow associated with one’s personality, habits, and lifestyle.People with type A blood are stereotyped as “shy, submissive, and conservative”,while men with type B blood are viewed as players. Now does that mean that most Central Asian men are players since that blood type is common among Central Asians? There are a variety of people in the world, not just four. And come on,I seriously don’t believe that proteins on your blood cells control your personality and lifestyle.
It seems like teenagers and younger people believe in this “blood group theory” than any other age group. Just look at that teenage boyband, FT Island. The drummer Choi Minhwan has described himself as a shy and conservative person, adding that it’s probably because he falls into the A blood group. I fall into the same blood group as he and guess what? I’m not conservative or shy or submissive at all! Back to the subject…The vocal Lee Hongki(AB) has stated that he would never marry a girl with type O blood. Uh, they say that people with type O blood are dictators(Kim Jong-Il!), over-confident, and always pressuring themselves into doing something. That is not true. So I guess Hugo Chavez and all those people fall into the O blood group? Can anyone go to the countries and take the dictators’ blood samples for me?
Let’s take another look at that “blood group theory”. The hottest fashion leader among Korean guys is Big Bang(esp.G-Dragon) thesedays. They are known for their staple Japanese street style+Kanye West+American punk look, and even the rival boybands like SHINee and FT Island(although they’ve gone more hardcore goth thesedays), as well as thousands of fashionable Korean guys, follow their style, wearing “Big-Bang style” skinny jeans, Nike Jordans, Kanye West-style sunglasses, and red plaid jackets(remember the one Daesung wore?). So their fashion is basically mix-and-match. Well, according to Koreans, people who fall into the AB blood group have a great fashion sense, and they tend to mix-and-match a lot. Now that proves this all wrong, since Taeyang’s the only one who has type AB blood.
I’m just sick and tired of people who stereotype me as “shy and submissive” just because I have type A blood. I don’t wear casual, plain clothes(I’m semi-punk+casual urban+glam rock+preppy+skater+you name it).I don’t go all crazy on O blood group guys.
