So yeah, you love DBSK,Super Junior,Wonder Girls,or any other Korean musician. You maybe already are a Kpop fan. If you are not Korean or a newer Kpop fan, you may have some troubles communicating with older Kpop fans since they tend to mix some Korean words into their English sentences. No problem. I’ve got here some basic Korean words Kpop fans need, so check ‘em out.
Oppa(오빠): Probably the most used Korean word by Kpop fans. This is for the male celebrity you like(who’s probably older than you), your older brother, older males you’ve met, your older boyfriend, and et cetera. Korean girls sometimes use the slang forms of this word, like “opha(옵하)”,”opa(오파)”,etc. By the way, this word is for girls only. Guys who call other guys oppa are just…sore losers.
Unnie(언니): Another girls-only word. This is the feminine form of oppa. Use this word for the female celebrity you like, your older sister, older females you’ve met, et cetera.
Hyung(형): Guys-only version of oppa. Korean guys sometimes use the slang forms of this word, like “hyong(횽)”, “ung-ah(엉아)”,etc.
Nuna/Noona(누나): Guys-only version of unnie. The more formal version of this word is “noonim(누님)”,which is sometimes used as a slang.
Pal deung shin(팔등신): The perfectly proportioned body(in the Korean standard) with a relatively small head taking up 1/8 of the body. Some examples of the “pal deung shin” celebrities are U-know Yunho, Kim Heechul, Han Yeseul, etc.
Mee chin weh mo(미친외모): Literally can be translated into “crazy/mad looks”. A term for celebrities who are exceptionally good looking. Yoona from SNSD and Kyuhyun from Super Junior are probably the most famous titleholders.
Sa cha won(사차원): Literally translated into “four-dimensional”. An adjective for celebrities who are weird in a cute way, although it can also be used as an offensive term. Some of the sa cha won celebrities are Eric Mun, Kim Heechul, Sunmi, Kim Hyunjoong, etc.
Ul gool ma dam(얼굴마담): A term that refers to the best-looking members in a teen idol group. Yoona is considered the ul gool ma dam for SNSD, so is Lee Hongki for FT Island by most of their fans.
Fan jeel(팬질): Acting like a fan of a Korean band/group/singer.
Fa Soon Ee/Fa Dol Ee(빠순이/빠돌이): An offensive term refering to fangirl/fanboy.
Mwong mee?(뭥미?): What the heck?
Yuh shin(여신): Literally translates into “goddess”. A term refering to female celebrities with exceptional beauty.
Gool yok(굴욕): Literally translated into “humiliation” or “insult”. Most commonly refers to celebrities’ bad, bad, bad pictures. I don’t know how to explain this. Just check out some Super Junior gool yok pictures. You’ll see what I mean.
Hey I’ve got nothing against Ryeowook. This is an example. Now you see what I mean?
Dak Dong Dak Ca(닥동닥카): “Shut up it’s DBSK, shut up it’s Cassiopeia.” A slogan of the Cassiopeias.
This is all I can think of now.
