Oh no he didn't just kiss his girlfriend before he turned 18!
I’ve been keep seeing this trend rising among mostly Asian Super Junior fans: bashing the Western culture and Westerners. As an American of Asian ancestry, I want to say that you guys should stop it NOW.
Having pride in your culture is one thing; however, acting ignorant and looking down on another cultures are considered horribly crude and immature. You might think all Super Junior fans are Asians, but that is not true. If you don’t believe me, make a Facebook account and join the Super Junior fan page on Facebook; literally thousands of non-Asian Super Junior fans support Super Junior. Some of the most loyal readers of my blog are Europeans. By indiscriminately bashing the Western culture and Westerners, you’re only discouraging and offending fellow fans. I don’t think Super Junior will appreciate your time spent on labelling European and American fans as sluts.
Is there that much difference between “Asian” culture and Western culture that the latter one deserves to be harshly criticized? I assume that it was the Korean culture that the fans were comparing to the Western culture, since it would be too much of an insult to assume that they were Social Studies-failing 6th graders who were naive enough to believe that Asia is a homogeneous continent with a homogeneous ethnicity and culture. However, I’m still going to break this to you: most modern Koreans are not as conservative as the people from your village. Teenage Korean couples do kiss and make out before they turn 18(surprise!). There are Korean emos, punks, goths, and metalheads. Undoubtedly, there are gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, and transgendered Koreans. Not all, but a large proportion of teenagers do drink, smoke, and party their heads off, just like Western teenagers. In addition to that, if you are thinking that Super Junior members must’ve stayed nice and straight edge during their teenage years, you’re dreadly mistaken.
I truly believe that this fandom’s future lies at the hands of Westerner fans. If you want Super Junior to succeed worldwide, not just in East Asia, supporting and encouraging fans from areas where there aren’t as many SJ fans is important and crucial. However, I can clearly see that some people are doing exactly the opposite.
