Raise Your Hand If You’re Gay/Bi

His fans don't bash him.

How come the only confirmed gay celebrity in Korea is Hong Seokchun? There has to be a lot more of them.

I remember arguing with this one reader about homosexuality a while ago. She has claimed that most Koreans are probably not homophobic, because Donghae once said on a TV show that there’s nothing wrong with gays. First of all, Donghae is not, I repeat, not an accurate sample of an average Korean male. Secondly, that quote was from Super Junior Mini Drama.

I am not trying to convince that Donghae is a close-minded douche. I am not saying that all Koreans are homophobic either. But after a ton of encounters with Koreans and Korean immigrants, I have to make a generalization: the Korean society in general is homophobic.

As a biromantic asexual, I know how hiding in the closet feels: it sucks. Girls often make comments like how they hate bisexual and lesbian girls, and while I am neither bisexual nor lesbian, it still hurts. So imagine how the gay/bi Korean celebrities would feel. There are rumors floating around on the web about their sexual orientation, and their fans “defend” them by saying sh*t like “OMFG MY OPPA CANT BE GAY EW THATS DISGUSTING DONT EVEN USE HIS NAME AND THE WORD GAY IN THE SAME SENTENCE!!!” Yeah, that was a very thoughtful comment.

heechul_kjp

I am not saying that he is, but Heechul from Super Junior is one of the celebrities whom is rumored to be bisexual. Whenever I make this statement, I get billions of angry comments from his non-English speaking fans bashing on bisexuality and insisting that he is not bisexual. I mean, seriously, what’s so wrong with bisexual guys? I’m going to sound sexual here; bisexual guys are hot as hell.  And it’s not like he is the only one who’s rumored to be bisexual/gay. Jang Geun Suk (yes, the drop dead gorgeous hottie from You’re Beautiful), Gong Yoo, and Won Bin are also rumored to be gay/bi (I AM NOT saying that they are), so stop complaining that people are picking on Heechul.

Maybe the gay/bi celebrities want to come out of the closet. Well, maybe it’s the homophobic attitudes of the fans that are making it hard for them to be honest. Seriously, stop bashing on us people of alternative sexual orientations and mind your own business. You yourself is probably not 100% heterosexual either.

I’m Not Heterosexual. Deal With It.

for me, love has nothing to do with sex

for me, love has nothing to do with sex

I’ve always been convinced that I was heterosexual. Yeah, I liked guys and I appreciated them. Well, guess what, readers. I’m thinking that I’m not straight, and I’m pretty sure about this.

I’m asexual.

I’m pretty aware of that I’m going to lose some readers by coming out on my blog. As far as I know, some of you come from cultures that are pretty hostile toward non-heterosexuals. I’m sorry, but deal with it. I know that I was born this way, and there is nothing I can do to transform myself into some heteronormative person. And to clear things up, I was not sexually abused when I was a child. I’m not mentally or emotionally insane. I’m not too ugly to get guys; in fact, I’ve been asked out many times, sometimes by pretty cute guys. I’m definitely not a closet lesbian, as there is no way that you can have me attracted to girls in a sexual way.
So I’m asexual. So what, does me being sexually attracted to neither sex makes me a bad person? I’m still romantically attracted to guys, but sometimes I wonder if I’m actually biromantic…I’ll figure out someday, and you guys will be the first to hear when I figure out my “romantic orientation” as I call it.
Why am I ranting so much today…Anyways, if you think you might be asexual, meaning that you are not sexually attracted to either sex, there is a community of us on the web called “AVEN.”(www.asexuality.org). Remember that asexuality is a rare sexual orientation, and that there are many people who don’t even know that asexuality exists.
I think asexuality should be a part of the LGBT movement… Most people know that those orientations exist, and gays can get support from various gay rights organizations when they need to. Whereas for asexuals, there really isn’t any support organization other than AVEN and many people don’t even know that we exist…okay enough with the stupid rantings that nobody even cares about. :P

Korean Rocker Chicks

Filed under: Whatev. — sjff @ 6:30 pm

What I like about those rocker chicks is that many of them are NOT vocalists. Over here, 99% of female rockers are vocalists unless they are in an all-female band. I mean, I like it when girls sing rock, but it sometimes makes me wonder if people think girls can’t rock guitars and basses. Anyways, here are our rockin’ Korean chicks…
Kim Yoona(Jawoorim)

With her beautiful baby

With her beautiful baby

She’s the main vocalist and frontwoman for one of the most well-known(sorry for the contradictory) Korean indie bands, Jawoorim. Her lyrics are very eccentric, and you never know what you will get from her!

Check out: Carnival Amour, Love Rock ‘n Roll, and Il Tal.

 Yozoh

Aww!

Aww!

I think she’s a solo musician, not sure. Sometimes referred to as one of the three ”Goddesses of Hongdae(the official mecca of Korean alternative cultures),” she sure is cute, making her one of the chosen few “cute” rocker chicks. She used to be a hip hop musician, but now she’s indie rock:)

Check out: My Name is Yozoh, Honey Honey Baby, Roller Coaster of Love.

U(Shingaram Band)

3

She plays the bass for Shingaram Band, an indie/emotive hardcore band. She lives with her two adorable, “metalhead” cats, and has a hot boyfriend, who’s also a rocker. Also a relatively famous alternative model, she has modeled for Fender and a bunch of alternative fashion brands. What more can a rocker chick wish for?

Check out: It’s Me, Run Away, Sad Radio

Kim Kyungin(Peter Pan Complex)

I’m so happy to find a female drummer who’s not in a girl band. She drums for Peter Pan Complex, a Britpop/alternative rock band. Not only she rocks her drums like there is no tomorrow, she also has a pretty face and a heartwarming smile.

Check out: Burn It Down, The First Step to Love, Memories of You

Cho Yoojin(Cherry Filter)

cho yoojin

She’s the lead singer and frontwoman for Cherry Filter, an indie band. Her voice is very husky and powerful, but just because she has a husky voice, doesn’t mean that she can’t hit ultra high notes with ease!

Check out: Pianissimo, Romantic Cat, Peace N Rock N Roll
